BBC Radio 4’s Money Box was broadcast on Saturday, 6 December, 2003. The programme was repeated on Sunday, 7 December, 2003 at 2102 GMT. Endowment The Consumers Association has renewed its call for further investigations into firms who may have been involved in endowment mis-selling. On Tuesday, John Tiner of the Financial Services Authority (FSA), admitted that the endowment mis-selling problem was widespread. We were joined by Louise Hanson of the Consumers Association and Alan Leaman of the Association of British Insurers.

Consumer credit white paper The consumer credit white paper is going before parliament on Monday. The result of a two year government review into the market, it is expected to announce new measures to deal with unfair lending practices, and rules for more transparency on advertising, on credit card charges. It is also expected to outlaw lenders charging penalties to customers who repay their loans early. However there are no plans to introduce a cap on interest rates which say would offer most protection to vulnerable customers.
